I’m an eighth grader at Trinity Episcopal School. This is my first year taking ceramics so for my first show, I chose to make small purple pieces. I chose this because I have been extremely successful with throwing bowls and felt comfortable creating these forms. I made one small bowl with an indent at the lip and two others that were smooth all around. When I first started attempting to create my bowls, the smaller shape was very hard to achieve. Eventually, I coned up and down just the right amount and successfully created a small bowl. After I got more comfortable with this process, I created bowl with thick bottoms so that I could wire cut them down to the size I want. The next day, I trimmed my bowls and cut down their bases. Then, I painted the outsides with a purple underglaze and bisque-fired it. Two days later, the bowls were returned to me and I glazed them with a shimmery purple hue do tie them all together with color and size rather than shape. I really enjoyed making these pieces and feel very proud of them. In the future, I hope to grow as a ceramics artist and create even bigger and better forms. Thank you for taking the time to read this and look at my work!
